Pinkies are the most commonly used frozen insects. When birds are allowed to choose, they often show a strong preference for this insect. It is a worm with a soft skin and a delicious taste. Pinkies are maggots of the small green fly.
The name pinkies is derived from the English word "pink" which means "rose". It refers to the colour that the worms take on when they are about to pupate.
