Buffalo worms are the larvae of the small tenebrion (Alphitobius Diaperinus). These hazelnut-flavoured worms are very nutritious because of their high protein content and low fat content, and are among the favourite foods of small birds. Less tough than mealworms, for example, Buffalo worms are also more digestible.
In our farms, Buffalo worms are grown on cereals and vegetables, without the addition of synthetic products or other growth stimulators.
As a result of scalding and shock freezing processes provided by our own facilities, Buffalo worms are free of bacteria and, so to speak, sterile. The residual fraction of bacteria and mould is well below the current standards for human and animal food. Frequent checks supported by analyses ensure careful monitoring of the entire procedure. This dual treatment makes worms even more digestible.
